CHANAK / FAMILY GUIDE

U.S. college planning: building a purposeful pathway

Credits, applications, English and costs: what to prepare and what each institution decides.

College planning begins with the student: interests, strengths, values, study habits and financial circumstances. Chanak sees academic guidance as a conversation connecting learning with a purposeful life. A list of famous universities is only a starting point.

Compare pathways

Consider four-year institutions, community colleges and technical training. Before planning a transfer, confirm which credits the receiving institution would accept. Compare the academic programme, available support and total cost.

Build a clear academic record

Organise courses, credits, grades and evidence throughout High School. Keep course descriptions and meaningful projects. Homeschool applicants should ask each institution what records it requires and who must issue them. Dual Diploma students should distinguish local-school records from Chanak records.

A U.S. diploma does not confer U.S. citizenship or automatically determine an applicant’s admission category. Citizenship, residence, previous education and institutional policies must be considered separately.

Check each application

Use the university’s own requirements for transcripts, translations, recommendations, essays, tests and deadlines. SAT and ACT policies vary. English proficiency requirements are a separate question; verify whether a test or an applicable exemption is required.

Keep the student’s voice

Essays should reflect genuine experiences. Guidance can help organise ideas and improve clarity while the student retains authorship. Request recommendations early and provide an honest activity summary.

Plan the full cost

Include tuition, housing, insurance, transport and personal expenses. Check aid eligibility and renewal conditions for the student’s circumstances. Scholarships and admission are not guaranteed. Verify any immigration requirements with official sources and the receiving institution.

Next step with Chanak

Bring your grade level, country of residence, academic records and goals. Ask about guidance availability and agree its scope: pathway review, a timeline, documentation or application support. The institution makes the admission decision.
